IMAP—Access Email From Almost Anywhere

The IMAP email access protocol in MDaemon PRO provides support for mobility, message folder sharing, and even email account sharing by multiple users plus the centralized storage, filtering, and manipulation of messages in private, shared, and public folders on the email server. Every email user and group of users can benefit from MDaemon’s rich implementation of this open standard technology, which includes:

Centralized storage of messages on the email server

Messages are stored on the email server for reading and organizing into folders. Copies can be downloaded for reading and replying when the email client is not online.

Messages always available from any computer with an IMAP email client

Because the messages are stored on the email server, they can be accessed from IMAP email clients on multiple machines — at the office, at home, or at an Internet café as examples, making MDaemon IMAP ideal for on-the-go users. The folders and messages are the same on the various email clients.

Messages always available from any computer with a web browser

Keeping the messages on the server also makes them available through MDaemon’s WorldClient web mail application.

Management of message folders on the email server

Mailbox folders can be added, nested, renamed, moved, and deleted. They can be for private, shared, and public access. Shared and public folders can be used for mailing lists, announcements, and common projects.

Automatic filtering of messages into private, shared and public folders

MDaemon IMAP can filter messages to folders on the server. As an example, the filter can be setup by sender, recipient, subjects, or message header content. IMAP filtering happens even when an IMAP client is not attached to the account.

Copying and moving messages between folders

Messages can be freely copied and moved between folders to help keep email organized.

Simultaneous connection to multiple accounts

IMAP allows users to stay connected to one or more accounts on multiple email servers while reading, creating, and organizing messages.

Copying and moving messages between accounts

When client software is connected to more than one account the user can copy messages between the folders in the different accounts, even if the accounts are on separate email servers and in different email domains.

Multiple types of message flagging for shared and public folders

With shared and public folders, multiple users can connect simultaneously to the same mailbox folder and share all of its messages and attachments. Message status flags show when a user has read the message, for example. The flags can be unique to each user or shared among all members of a group. Unique message flags are useful when everyone in a group should see all messages in a public folder. Individual flags tell users they have read the message. Shared message flags tell all members of a group if someone in the group has read a message.

Time and bandwidth saving through selective downloading

IMAP can save time and bandwidth by downloading just the headers (To, From, Subject) of emails without transferring the message or any attachments to the client. This gives the user the choice as to when to download a message and any attachments, or perhaps, just delete the message without ever viewing it based on the sender and subject, for example.

Easy Backup

When all messages for all users are maintained on a centralized server, back up is easy.
